Peter
My God, your face is worse than ever. Didn’t you go to the doctor’s this morning?
Alice
I didn’t have time.
Peter
You should have made time. I told you to go.
You should have rung him up at once.
Alice
Yes, I suppose I ought to have. I’ll go later this evening.
Peter
You shouldn’t have wasted all this time.
Why couldn’t you have gone this morning?
What have you been doing since I left you?
Alice
I told you. I had an appointment with Henri, the beautician.
Peter
That couldn’t have taken all day.
Alice
It didn’t. He should have come at eleven o’clock,
but he didn’t turn up till ten past twelve. And by the time he had finished, it was lunch-time.
Alice
My face, of course.
Peter
It’s a pity he couldn’t have made a better job of it.
Alice
Actually, he didn’t do anything in the end because of the spots. He said it would be too dangerous.
Peter
I could have told him that.
Alice
So we just sat and talked.
Peter
Oh, you did, did you?
Alice
He said I ought to have seen him years ago.
He could have done so much to help my skin.
Peter
Oh, he could, could he?
Alice
So he’s taking me to a skin specialist tomorrow.
